This week’s post is dedicated to the humble pear. Although it’s often underrated, I love the sweet, mellow taste of the flesh. Paired with a delicious chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream this indulgent recipe comes to life.
- Peel two conference pears and slice a little of the bottom so it can sit flat on a plate
- Add two cups of water and two tablespoons of brown sugar to a saucepan and boil
- Add the pears and simmer
- Meanwhile, make the chocolate sauce. Melt 50g of chocolate either with a bain marie or via the microwave (further details below) and combine with 4 dessert spoons of whipping cream
- After 20 mins drain the pears and add to a bowl. Drizzle with the chocolate sauce and serve with ice cream.
I prefer to use a microwave for melting smaller amounts of chocolate. Using a vegetable peeler, shave the chocolate into a microwave proof bowl. Place in the microwave for 15 seconds, stir and then repeat.
I’ve always been inspired by luxurious natural products. Chocolate and pears are one of my favorite combinations – extolling sweet but rich characteristics. I love making simple recipes that are inspired by their natural environment.
